Most of the time, candidates get them entangled in the confusion that whether they should opt for Provincial Management services (PMS) Or Central Superior services (CSS). It is true that CSS have more charm and attraction than PMS. What actually is the difference between PMS and CSS? This is more important question and must be answered before the discussion on opting PMS or CSS. CSS is a competitive examination held by federal public service commission (fpsc) every year for allocation of successful candidates in eight different cadres or groups of services. The number of seats in these eight cadres varies year by year. PMS, on the other hand, is conducted by provincial management services of all the five provinces of Pakistan as well as AJK public service commission. In PMS, there are no specific service groups or cadres, rather the provincial departments send summaries to public service commission of their related province for allocation of suitable candidates against the posts vacant. The number of seats varies and they are not essentially held on yearly basis. For example, KPK PSC announced the PMS in 2008 and then after the lapse of two years the examination was again announced in 2010.
For some of these seemingly trivial but realistic reasons, I think PMS is more reliable and better than CSS examination. But again, I do not mean to say that you should only opt for one of these. You could, rather you must, get prepare for both these examinations and contest the real battle. Wish you best luck!!!!
